From the News-Herald:
The year was 1960 when teenager Patsy Torphy wrote a letter to Detroit Tigers right fielder Al Kaline. She asked if there was a fan club for him, and upon hearing that there wasn’t, asked him if she could start one. Torphy, now Patsy Butson, said he seemed genuinely flattered. “I couldn’t believe how humble he was about it,” Butson said. Her love of baseball started in 1958, when she was a 15-year-old who attended her first doubleheader at Briggs Stadium, later known as Tiger Stadium.
