Detroit native and Tigers legend Willie Horton and legendary Eastern Michigan coach Ron Oestrike form the latest class heading into the Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Horton and the late Oestrike will be inducted into the hall of fame in an in-game ceremony during the Lansing Lugnuts matchup against the Dayton Dragons on Aug. 17. They form the fifth class of the Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame, which was established in 2015 by the Lugnuts to honor the state’s baseball heroes of the past.
Horton had a decorated career as a player, winning a Detroit Public title while at Northwestern High School and then a national sandlot championship with the Detroit Lundquist. His winning legacy for the outfielder continued after signing with the Detroit Tigers out of high school as he was a key part of the 1968 World Series championship squad.
